CRETAN COOKERY CLASSES
One of the delights of travelling abroad is the opportunity to sample local cuisine and Crete delicacies are among the best in Europe.
Having tasted the likes of dakos, fried snails, mountain bulbs and smoked pork it’s only natural to want to replicate such dishes yourself.
Thankfully there a handful of courses on the island that instruct you on how to ‘cook like a Cretan’. Hundreds of holidaymakers pick up valuable tips in these classes, allowing them to conjure a taste of Crete when back home.
Cretan Traditional Cooking Lessons
One of the most popular is that held in Vamos village. Four-hour lessons for small groups take place in the unique surroundings of Fabrica, in the heart of the old neighbourhood.
Attendees are given a step-by-step guide to creating 5-6 Crete dishes amid an historic backdrop.
The class is led by Mrs Koula, a Crete native and author of the popular ‘Foods of Crete’ book. She’ll impart her wisdom before inviting you to sit down for a beautiful meal of your own making, complete with fine wine and music.
