Villa Dorsey

General Description

Close to Almyrida and between Almyrida and Gavalochori, Villa Dorsey is a comfortable villa standing in a large plot with a private pool and mature gardens. The surrounding area is very peaceful and picturesque with olive groves, vineyards and fruit trees and yet within 10 minutes walk you can be in the bustling seaside village of Almirida.

The property is a 3 storey building with the rental villa being on floors 2 and 3. The lower floor which can be seen in the photographs, is a basement which the owners use as a storage area.

Ground Floor (floor 2)

The ground floor living space is light and airy with an open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area which can easily accommodate 6. The large U shaped kitchen is well equipped with all the necessities for a self catering holiday and from here you can enjoy views of the garden and pool. The dining area which connects the kitchen to the sitting area, has a table and 6 chairs with the sitting area beyond being traditionally furnished with sofas and various pieces of occasional furniture. Double french doors open out on to a furnished balcony overlooking the side garden.

One of the three bedrooms at the villa leads off the lounge; this room has twin beds, a wardrobe and drawers for clothes storage with another set of double french doors opening out to the balcony overlooking the side garden.

Completing the ground floor accommodation is a shower room with a walk in shower, wash basin and wc.

First Floor (floor 3)

The master, double bedroom and another twin bedroom are on this floor together with the family bathroom. Both bedrooms have private balconies which look out over the gardens and pool and both have plenty of space to store clothes in the wardrobes and drawers provided in each room. There is another spacious balcony leading off the landing which also overlooks the pool and main garden. The owners have furnished this with a teak dining table and folding directors chairs as this is their favourite  spot to watch the sun go down and enjoy the panoramic countryside views.

External Areas

Villa Dorsey is one of two villas sharing a driveway; it is the villa at the end of the driveway and hence the villa and garden are very private with no passing traffic. The villa was built a few years ago and thus it now benefits from mature, well planted and maintained gardens all around the villa including a couple of "secret" sitting areas. With lots of space for everyone, plenty of sunbeds, rattan tables and chairs, you will be spoiled for choice when it comes to selecting where to relax in the garden or stretch out around the large pool. The pool benefits from having easy access with wide roman steps at one end as well as a metal step ladder.

This is provided via a fixed telephone line giving unlimited upload/download.

Chania airport ­- 40 mins drive. Heraklion airport - 1 hr 50 mins drive.

Nearest Beaches ­- Almyrida - 10 min walk / 2 min drive or Kalives - 10 min drive.

Nearest Tavernas and Shops  - Almyrida - 10 min walk / 2 min drive or Kalives - 10 min drive.

Booking Information

Change-over days are totally flexible but are subject to existing bookings taken either side. If a booking means that the owner would be left with too many "void" days we might not be able to accept it. If this is the case we will contact you without delay to discuss alternatives.

Payment can be made by bank transfer to our sterling account or by debit or credit card (Mastercard or Visa) only.

Please note: although the calendars show live availability and you can book on-line, please note that your booking is not confirmed until we have issued a confirmation of booking. You may prefer not to book your flights until we have confirmed the booking. 

Low occupancy discounts - unfortunately the online booking system automatically calculates the single couple discount based on the number of people entered onto the booking form and the start day of your rental. There are 2 problems with this:-

a) If you are 2 people but not a single couple, the system will have automatically calculated a discount when it is not due. Please make use of the "additional notes" box on the booking form to tell us and we will adjust the price accordingly before we confirm your booking.

b) If your rental overlaps from a discounted period to a non-discounted one (or vice versa), the discount calculated will be wrong. In these cases we have to make the adjustment manually. You can still book on-line but we will need to change the price on receipt of your booking request. If the price increases we will contact you to confirm the new price before we confirm your booking and take your deposit.

Please don't let either of these issues put you off making a booking. The discounts are genuine and our villa owners welcome couples and smaller parties out of high season. We just can't fine tune the booking system to account for these 2 circumstances - sorry.

Marvellous holiday, great location and gardens to relax in. Downtown restaurants good, particularly Erotokritos and Atlantis. We will be back - September 2023. 

An amazing holiday in an amazing villa, we could not have wished for more. We have so enjoyed relaxing by the pool during the day and then heading down to the sea in the evening. The restaurants are some of the best we have eaten in anywhere in the world. We highly recommend Erotokritos, Trattoria Don Nikos and the rooftop bar in the Almyrida Residence Hotel. Hi Julie, big thank you to Crete Escapes for our fantastic holiday. The pool and gardens at Villa Dorsey are exceptional.  The pool was always clean and the size /depth was perfect.  Most of our days were spent lounging around poolside and evenings on the upper balcony eating, drinking and playing cards.  We walked into Almyrida a few times and got some truly great meals (my daughter will be talking about the salad from Elia & Thyme forever!) and enjoyed cocktails overlooking the sea.  The walk doesn’t feel far – even in the heat of the day. The villa stayed nice and cool thanks to the black-out shutters and the air conditioning.  Would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing holiday -  Missing it already! - August 2023.

I had a wonderful time at Villa Dorsey last year with my fiancée and friends. The villa is close to shops, restaurants and the beach. It has spacious rooms with comfortable beds. The villa is clean throughout and has a beautiful private swimming pool. I would recommend this villa to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday in Almyrida, Crete - September 2022.

We have had another lovely stay at Villa Dorsey. The house has all the space and everything you need to cater for a young family. We spent lots of days round the pool, but also enjoyed strolling down into Almyrida to make the most of the beach and fantastic traditional Greek food on the seafront. We can’t wait to come back soon - May 2022. 

My sister and I had a great time in Crete and would have no hesitation in recommending either your company or the house to others. The house was really well furnished and incredibly clean. The garden was in exceptional condition and a joy to use - September 2021.

We have just returned from Villa Dorsey and wanted to say what a wonderful time we had. The villa, gardens and pool were all immaculate and we wanted to convey our thanks to those responsible. The generous supply of sundries was also much appreciated as it avoided the usual self catering chore of having to immediately shop for things like loo rolls and bin liners. Many thanks also to Karen of Your Crete who responded immediately to the minor problem of being unable to locate a hairdryer and who provided one the same day. The villa was ideally located for us to stroll into Almyrida and Almyrida Taxis were brilliant with collecting and taking us to explore the nearby villages and beaches. It is a beautiful area and we look forward to returning. We would not hesitate to recommend Crete Escapes to friends and family. Thank you  - September 2019

Back from another fabulous holiday at Dorsey Villa Crete!! Just wondered when the dates for next year are released as we want to book again - also what is the cost? - August 2019

We had a wonderful 2 week stay at Villa Dorsey beginning of July. The villa was well equipped and homely and large enough for our family of 5. The pool was absolutely fantastic with plenty of sun loungers and parasols. Reading for hours with a drink under the shade of the gardens large walnut tree will be one of my many take home memories! We absolutely loved Almyrida, and having visited some of the larger towns nearby we are so glad we opted for this smaller seaside village. We were a 10 minute walk to the beach with all the tavernas and shops and dining out with the beach lapping up to the tavernas was wonderful! The food and drink was really good value and delicious, the people friendly and welcoming! All in all a great holiday with great memories! Thank you Jan and Julie, we were really impressed with the service you offer, shall recommend Crete escapes to our friends - July 2019.

Wonderful holiday in this stunning villa - we don't want it to end and would love to come back. Location is perfect for trips to Almyrida for the beach and meals out. Our favourites were Makis and Dimitris - we would suggest booking a table right by the beach at Dimitris as the view is idyllic. Lovely views from Plaka and more good tavernas up there too. We love Villa Dorsey - May 2018.

It's been about my 5th trip to Villa Dorsey and we've had a great time as usual. Have eaten at Lagos in Almyrida, have enjoyed the villa and pool, been to the beach, bought more leather goods in Chania and will probably go to Lake Kournas before heading back to the airport. The addition of wi-fi has also been useful and means we could even potentially get a bit of work done here in future.  Thanks for another great stay - September 2016. 

Felt like a millionaire for 2 weeks! Amazing villa and pool, was so relaxing. Great village too, quiet but still lively so can't wait to return next year. Loved the swallows dive bombing the pool every evening and the geckos hanging around the porch light too.  Thank you so much to the owners and Crete Escapes, you have a right gem here.  PS - brilliant wi-fi - September 2016.

Had a wonderful time here in Villa Dorsey, pool fantastic - lovely and warm! Villa has everything we need. Loved Almyrida town and ate out there most evenings.  Went to Chania for two evenings too.  All great - July 2016. 

We booked 2 weeks at the Dorsey Villa in spring last year and have re-booked again for the coming year.  It is a beautiful spacious villa located in a tranquil setting with great views of the hills and mountains, but only 10 minutes walk to the village, shops, tavernas and beach.  We loved every minute of our stay - August 2015. 

We started visiting Crete in 1994 but it took us a few years to discover the delights of Almyrida together with the beautifully appointed Villa Dorsey.  After our first visit there in 2006 we liked it so much we have returned almost every year since.  The villa itself sits in spacious, well kept, grounds populated with lemon, orange, olive and almond trees.   The large, safe, pool being the main centerpiece.   Inside, the villa is very well equipped with all mod cons one would wish for and every room is air conditioned. There is adequate parking off the main road.  Our son was married at the nearby Moorish Fort at Aptera in 2011 and we found Villa Dorsey to be the perfect venue for pre- and after-wedding parties/celebrations!  Once visited you will find, like we have, that in the words of our dear departed Cretan friend Chrissa “there is always a coming back to Crete!” Words alone cannot express how we feel about Villa Dorsey and the surrounding village of Almyrida with its various tavernas and extremely safe bathing beach - you MUST visit for yourself - June 2015.
